I am standing by the Bangladesh government in Dhaka, were the army is trying to stop the water after it is rapidly gaining height. The south of Dhaka is all in water there is not a house standing, after the nearby rivers of Brahmaputa and Meghma burst the embankment during heavy rain. As the embankment itself broke and increased the water level by another 4 m, which is now camouflaging half of Dhaka especially the south, east and north-east part of the city. Now it has even got worse after it is flooding the central part of the city, where sadly to say I am located .I had to be evacuated by a helicopter, as we lifted up to the sky I could see the government building was being overrun by water and we could see corpses of people floating in the water. 1 of the Bangladesh ministers was on my helicopter. I asked him 2 questions:’ why was the water so unclean’, he replied that the sewage factory in south-west Dhaka was flooded and all the toxins were released into the water and 1 of the worst parts was that a war industry creating poisons was also flooded. So this means the water was un-drinkable, he estimated the costs of repair would be 7$ dollars if it stopped now.
Te reasons for this kind of strong flooding is that many trees have been cut down so there is no interception between the water and the leaves. Interception is a process where water is absorbed up the roots and into the leaves. This decreases the rate of flooding..\so the flooding increases by 30%.secondly there are embankments made that stop the water but the government is to poor to afford many embankments either way the rivers are used as a food source, it provides fish which are essential to bangladeshians and their economy. Thirdly the increase of global warming will make the ice caps melt and it will make the water rise which will flood 95% of Bangladesh after Bangladesh’s highest point is 15m which we may then delete Bangladesh from the world and some other countries. Fourthly the monsoon rains are heavier than normally which is too much to hold for the rivers of Bangladesh especially the Ganges. Finally there are many typhoons which form at the Bay of Bengal and they head straight for Bangladesh.
The whole city of Dhaka is now all in water you can only see people on the roofs of their houses, calling for help I can see many boats trying to rescue all the people they can…..
This is terrible 1 of the buildings has collapsed, it has taken 50 people down. If you can appeal fresh drinking water, sensible food supplies and clothes to the charity we would be really grateful and so would Bangladesh be if you donated these resources for life. It will take 10 years to rebuild all the damage caused by the flood. At least there is 1 plus to this the employment will increase after the flood to rebuild all the lost things.
